Living For God Every Day

Article taken from the Highland Church Newsletter: June 1995
by Pastor Subash Cherian

I came across a story of a very famous photographer that was highly skilled in capturing sky divers on film. He was the very best there was in his field and he would jump with the sky divers to catch them in their daring acts. But one day he jumped out of the plane without his parachute and sadly fell to his death. How could someone so experienced and    good as he, forgets his parachute?

Obviously there were a lot of very important matters on his mind. Although sharp, mentally alert, and experienced, he was so preoccupied with all the minute details that he simply forgot the most important thing. He had to check his films, the camera and all accessories. He had to also instruct the sky divers when to jump and the various sequences that he planned to film such as their different aerial acrobatic combinations. He gave them the final instructions as they jumped, and then he too took of just as he had planned. He did everything accept the most important thing. He forgets his parachute and fell to his death.

The church may do many important things, but if it forgets the most essential thing, the church to can fall to its death.

There are so many things we as a church are doing that are important. Everyone of the inreaches and outreaches of this church are geared to help one in their growth and service for the lord. I encourage you to participate in the various ministries within the church that are there to help and strengthen you in your Christian walk.

I want to encourage you to find your place in the body of Christ. Each of the ministries has definite purpose. Some are raised to train and equip, and some become a center of caring and reaching out, while others become the hub of service within the church and to our community. Every one of these ministries has an important part to play to the individual and to the church.

As important as all these are, let me add that having participated in all of these wonderful activities and training, if you have not yet made a definite commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ nor walk in fellowship with him, you are as good as dead!

A church may be active with many ministries and programs and may remember to do many important things, but if it forgets to maintain her vital relationship with Jesus Christ her Lord, adhere to the truth of God’s word and live for him everyday of her existence here, the church with all its ministries and activities has jumped out into the thin blue sky without a parachute.
