Weapon Against Right

War is a dirty word. While the whole world is so concentrated on the war occurring in the Middle East, few realize the war that takes place right in their own backyard. It is not a war against communism, capitalism, or any “ism”. It is not a polite or ideological war either. This is War Against Right (WAR). No, I do not mean right-wingers but rather, anything that is right in this world. It is an all-out war against truth: God, His kingdom and His righteousness.

Yes, the fact of the matter is this is an actual war that is taking place in every corner of the world: the Middle East, the Far East, Europe and yes, right here in the good old U.S.A. This war is not being covered by the media—there are no reporters anywhere near the parameters let alone the front lines. It is not a very popular or newsworthy item in our world of sports, pleasure, ideology and money. It is, therefore, not in the interest of the media to report the war. In fact, the battles are being financed and backed in many quarters of this nation and the entire world.

The targets of the attacks are people who stand up for God and Jesus, who is His righteousness. These people, with a worldwide population of over five to six million, are facing the cruel wrath of the enemy every single day. They are abused, arrested, jailed without cause, beaten severely and tortured. They lose their homes, their livelihood and their families. They are even being martyred in unprecedented numbers, paying the ultimate price because of their stand for righteousness.

The sad truth is that very few will defend them. There is no army or world leader that wants to fight for them. The U.N will not come to their rescue, nor Russia, Saudi Arabia or even the U.S.A. Sadly, the church too, is very quiet even though this war is not something that is done in a corner.

In fact, the Bible openly talks about this fierce war that has been taking place for many centuries before we were born. It is hereditary warfare that began the moment the serpent intruded in the private world, the garden, of the first man and woman to fight what was right and true. And this warfare is not recorded in Scripture as in interesting circumstance to tickle the ears of history buffs, but it was written for our instruction and edification; for we remember the text which says, "Whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our profit."

As people of faith, we should be committed to standing up for righteousness and truth. And while it is not a popular thing, it is our responsibility to do so.  Having found the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, we need to hold fast to it.  Because that righteousness and truth is not only the bedrock of our faith, but it is also the very bedrock that keeps the world from falling apart.
