The Bible tells us that Jesus suffered and died. He tasted death for every man. The death certificate for each man would state some sickness, heart attack or cancer. These are but the symptoms of the cause of death: sin. And Jesus came to "destroy him who has the power of death and sin—that is, the devil (Hebrews 2:14.) Yes Jesus died but listen to the good news from the cemetery. Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, for he is risen, as he said.” On the third day He arose. He left the cemetery over 2000 years ago and you won’t find Him there. This living Lord Jesus Christ is here and would like to meet with you today.
When it comes to resurrection, the people of the world go nuts because they cannot understand this great miracle. And this mind boggling truth baffles the Secular mind and he finds it hard to come to deal with it. This will be about the time of the year when leading newspapers or magazines will in a very delicate but insidious way begin to slice the Person of Jesus Christ and His resurrection in their cover stories or will use some so called “scholars” to debunk the gospel or the “myth” of Christianity. But as Solomon wrote “there is nothing new under the sun”. They started doing this even the very day Jesus rose from the dead. The powers of hell were totally surprised and have been active promoting some conspiracy theory or another down through the years. He had the priest and their cohorts come up with some explanation. Then it was turn of the power of Rome (Matthew 28:11-15) and there will always some new theories or another that will be floating every passing year!
But Jesus rose from the dead. With a mighty triumph He arose - just as he said he would. He arose! Every one of His disciples and all of the early Christians—without exception—believed that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead. They would rather give and gave their lives than disbelieve this truth. It was not just the Jewish Christians who believed but the Gentile Christians as well. Wherever the gospel went, it produced converts who joined in proclaiming the risen Christ. The Death, burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ became the cornerstone of the New Testament teachings and the centerpiece of their preaching as well. Their focus was not the death or the last seven words of the cross but the fact of the resurrection of Jesus and His seven words after the cross. (One of them being the great commission to be precise.)
Jesus is Risen. And because of His resurrection we have a reason for eternal hope. Celebrate the resurrection not merely as a tradition but as the greatest day of your life just as it is the greatest event in history.
