Giving Thanks
Thanksgiving
is around the corner. As we reflect on
this holiday let us take a lesson from the Pilgrim Fathers? We are going
through some difficult times. There are among us those who have lost their
loved ones, jobs or their possessions. Others have gone though some very trying
times. Often these moments' can become reminders of our need to count the many
blessings that we have so often overlooked. The spirit of thanksgiving comes
out of broken hearts and lives.
As we
look through the Bible, it becomes evident that thanksgiving becomes the
expression and possession of a people in the most trying of times. It was true
of the patriarchs and prophets of the Old and the apostles and the brethren in
the New Testament times. So in the midst of all that is happening, let us pause
to give thanks to God Almighty for all that He has done for us. It should not take a special national
holiday to motivate and stimulate us to give thanks to the Lord. It should be
an all year expression that should arise out of and from the depths of our
hearts.
Let 's pause to look upward and give all praise to our Heavenly Father. When we look
toward heaven through the eyes of the Bible we see all our blessings come from
above. We are reminded to give thanks (Eph. 5:20 NKJV) "giving thanks always for all things to
God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ".
